Seems like Hip Hop ( or at least … one branch of it ) gets looser and looser.
What me and a few friends call the “J Dilla” effect.
Production techniques that treat quantization as poison.
The rigid timing of machines to be avoided at all costs. No easy task to create this stuff. There really is a “right kind of wrong” in it. For me, it feels like it’s an evolution towards Musique concrète.
Now there’s a lot of producers that fit into this description .. and I’m gonna be posting about them soon enough. But none of them seemed to sit so close to concrète as
Abel – Skipping Puddles (Lapalux Remix)
Takes a minute to catch the beat but in the end my heads bobbin
The Trigger
And this one is the other way. Starts with a recognizable beat …
Paz Vega
What Salvador Dali listened to when he is “making out” with his girlfriend after school
Ballast
And on the softer side …
